Mindful Wellness Maui is committed to helping you live life to the fullest – however it is that you define that. We approach wellbeing from a perspective of self-empowerment and self-efficacy, believing that you already have the knowledge and capacity to live a life consistent with your true values and goals in life (True Self). For many of us, something (or many things) in life gets in the way of us truly listening to our intuition. We end up taking paths that are not consistent with who we are and how we want to be in the world.
We believe our role is to help you identify the obstacles that have gotten in your way (whether those are specific thoughts/belief systems, unconscious habits, fears, situations, chemical imbalances or a combination thereof) so that you can clearly define what genuinely matters to you and chart the path of your life.
We use the principles outlined in Drs. Gladding and Schwartz’s 2011 book, You Are Not Your Brain, to help you achieve your goals. Founded on numerous scientific studies, the book explains how your brain often works against you, below your level of consciousness, creating patterns of thought and behavior that are detrimental to you – what we call Deceptive Brain Messages. Equally important and empowering, the book describes how to change those patterns so that you sculpt a brain that works for you and is consistent with the person you truly are – your True Self.
To identify those deceptive brain messages and develop new patterns (neuroplastic changes), we employ a mindfulness-based approach known as the Four Steps that was designed to help you identify, re-evaluate and dismiss any unhelpful thoughts, feelings or actions you tend to engage in. Please see the You Are Not Your Brain page for more details on our approach.
Collaborating with Other Professionals
In addition to working with clients directly as the primary therapist (as described above), we often collaborate with Primary Care Physicians and Therapists to provide biochemical, psychological and genetic assessments that are used to inform recommendations for nutritional and lifestyle changes, supplements and/or pharmaceutical options that can assist you on your path to even greater wellness. Please use the links below to learn more about these options.
